Monkey business

Monkey Pool

I'm not sure how I feel about my Monkey - I think it is too stripey or pooling for my taste - I think the contrasting colors may make this inevitable. So I started this sock and found it would probably turn out about the same. So now, I am stumped. Any ideas? I didn't go too far on the second sock because it seemed to be going down the same road as my Monkey - what do you think?

What about the Dublin Bay Socks? Those might make it stripe and not pool? I have the same yarn so I've been trying to think of a pattern too.

I think it is turning out way stripe-y-er than when I saw it, less like pooling. I love the colors and your knitting is beautiful. I don't know what to tell you or how to prevent the pooling. Maybe someone will have a good idea for you. It was great to see you on Sunday. I ended up buying a lot of yarn. Let's do it again soon!

Hmmmm.... What about feather and fan? Would that be too busy too?

Maybe a garter rib or something plainer to show off the yarn.

That's a toughie!

It definitely looks to me more stripey than pooley (except on the cuff, but that's where it always hits me too). Sometimes if only pooling is the issue you can go up or down a needle size and that eliminates it (mostly). Perhaps you would like to join forces with another complimentary (solid) yarn and do a mosaic pattern from, say, Sensational Knitted Socks (and probably the new one too)? :) I might just join you on that one - I have half a ball of each color left over from the Mad Cow Socks last month, and I am about 30 seconds away from finishing the Elfines!!!

PS I have not fallen off the planet, but have been super busy with a big change coming up (fingers crossed I will find out tomorrow...and it is probably not what you think!)

I like the pattern of the other sock - probably won't stripe quite so distinctly

I like the look, but finding patterns that work with variegated yarns is hard. I just ripped out a sock because I was starting to not like the yarn anymore - when love turns to hate, time to find a new pattern. I am going to do a simple rib, I like it so much better when the color is what I want to show.

I like the socks. But I prefer the randomness of pooling over stripes. Have you ever made RPMS's from Knitty? Hmmm...they'd probably do the same? I loved the sock you linked to! Remember my Dalarna's--they were basically stockinette with a little lace panel.
