Ode to Claudia
I know I have been yapping incessantly about Wollmeise lately - it is a relatively new yarn to me - I have ordered from the creator Claudia, direct from Germany. It was this post that first turned me onto this beautiful stuff.
So, I went on an odessy on the net in search of the yarn. I was initially surpirsed there was only one US retailer that carries it and even then, it looked like strictly a sock yarn supply. I found the Wollmeise website and decided to send Claudia an e-mail hoping to purchase directly from her, but I wasn't sure if something could be lost in translation - I prayed a little, just a little though. Lo and behold I got an e-mail back and a hardy "yes" to my request. A week or so later the yarn showed up in my mail box - this was about a month ago now and I placed another order two weeks ago and now...I want some more. This is somewhat unnatural. I hate to be a yarn addict, I want other people to have a chance to get some but egads, the Yarn Harlot has now endorsed the Wollmeise on her blog - it's over - the race is on, isn't it? Now I am worried that again, I need to get a little more before I can't get any. I can't help but think that Claudia will think I am a glutton. I have this idea that Americans are kind of generalized to be gluttonous because of our economy and how "convenience" everything has gotten as I have gotten old(er). So I am sensitive to this - I don't want to be a pig - but man, the allure - Wollmeise is a siren singing to me. I mean have you seen this?
It's another strange coincidence that I have gotten to chat back and forth with Auntly H, the creator of the gorgeous Candle Flame shawl - we have chatted over at Ravelry, which I think is the best invention EVER. (or is it spurning on my illness?)And then there is Bockstark Knits and Elemmaciltur - how have I managed to stumble upon them in the past month as well - both raving Wollmeise groupies - and I think the founders of the group worshipping the 'Meise.
So I try to declare a yarn diet, I'm even cooking up ideas for a "button", I have decided to go out of town during the local Sheep and Wool (only comes once a year, that's sticking to a diet) and then here I am on the cusp of pushing "send" on another order. Good grief, I need an intervention...because I am sitting here trying to rationalize that maybe Wollmeise doesn't need to be included in my diet. It's like cutting out all sweets except chocolate. What kind of credibility would I have as a yarn diet leader? I'm thinking I shouldn't post this, then no one will know how sick I really am - denial is not a river in Egypt.
**ah, it is believed she has closed her shop to prepare for a yarn festival...my saving grace. :)

Hey you....not a good way to start a yarn diet - step away from the computer, and got knit for at least one hour. You can do it!! Although I'll admit I gasped when you said the Harlot endorssed it, now I'll never get any....hmmm....maybe we should do a bulk order. I could make it an early b-day present... :)
Too bad I'll miss you at WI Sheep & Wool, but enjoy your trip!
Willpower... she is a harsh mistress. If I were better acquainted with her, I would be a good deal thinner and have far more storage space!
The Wollmeise frenzy seems like the new STR, or the new Trekking. The world will never run out of beautiful yarns.
You are funny with the 'Meise - it's that great eh? Now I want some too so I can see what it's all about!
You are leaving town the weekend of WI Sheep & Wool? Wow you are serious!
Don't be so hard on yourself though, know that you are DEFINATELY not alone with the obsession! :)

Claudia is so friendly (refreshingly so) and such a pleasure to do business with. Her yarn is spectacular, simply put: Wollmeise is my new religion. And I am SO glad that I got on board before La Harlot gave her ringing endorsement, just for logistical/scarcity reasons...
Just to be clear... the Candle Flame isn't really my pattern. I knit it, and made some very minor adjustments, but it's really the pattern available free from KnitPicks. That said, test knitting the new chart is about half done (and I found a typo or two so it's worth the wait). You'll be getting an email this weekend, I think....
I think Claudia closed shop for a bit to prepare for the big yarn festivals. This either buys me time to figure out my next order or means I'll be at the bottom of a big pile of orders when she reopens. Sigh.....
Wow - I thought I'd had a busy week! Haircuts, (really lovely) skirts, and a Wollmeise crisis! Isn't it funny how urgent it feels sometimes to buy yarn?!? I totally do the same thing.
Btw - on my last post, you asked if I'd ever trust a jury, now that I've been on one. I say: put a hold on your crime spree! Some of the reasons that people had for believing the defendant guilty made me shudder! Trust me that for every person judging on evidence, there's another judging on bias and misunderstanding! Scary!
*you will NOT resist the Wollmeise, you will NOT resist the WOLLMEISE, you WILL NOT resist the WOLLMEISE,
you WILL NOT RESIST the WOLLMEISE,
YOU WILL NOT RESIST the WOLLMEISE!*
Coz, nobody can...not even the Yarn Harlot! :-p
You are too funny! I love reading yor blog! You definitely talked me into placing my first Wollmeise order:) Only you say at the end of your post that she has shut down! Darn! Late to the party again Dam it!!!
How did you place your order? I sent an email 'cuz the contact page would not accept my message post:(
Oh Stacey, you don't need a diet! I heard Wollmeise is low in carbs and fat anyway. I saw the Harlot's endorsement and you're right she's let the cat out of the bag for sure. Why is it I don't know anything about the WI Sheep and Wool Festival? Where is it? That is so bad.
I have been unable to stick to a yarn diet myself. I just need to win the lottery and then everything will be fine!
Awe man, the Yarn Harlot blessed the Wollmeise? No chance I'll ever get some more now. I knew I should have ordered more than three skeins and promised them all to other people! WendyKnit's knit with it as well. It's over. Waah!
