I want, I need, I would like...

Ah, the magic of "I" language" - you social worky types know just what I am saying...

But really, Wow - I need this. I NEED this - seriously. It's called a Kindle, and you can read all about it here. It is too amazing for words, so just go check it out - I'll wait.

Wowza, what do you think? You can dowload books and magazine and newspapers and blogs, anywhere - anywhere - no wireless bill, it seems like a miracle. I would need to do more research but this is something I may just aspire to. No more spinning wheel thoughts, it's all Kindle baby.

I would also really like this:

Ah, a little more managable right - at less than 10% of the cost of the Kindle, Elizabeth Zimmerman is looking like the steal of the century. I really think as I ponder the Project Spectrum, I would like to also consider EZ - she has inspired and influenced so many great knitters,(namely Jared Flood of brooklyntweed comes to mind)...I need to see what all of the hoopla is about. And I happen to have some Hello Yarn that would like to be a Baby Surprise Jacket.

Perhaps, for me, this year is one to be thoughtful about knitting, I keep coming back to that end - it is different to think about what I want out of my knitting - could it be craft therapy? Getting my craft on, getting a tune-up? I like the sound of that.

(now to slink off and think up an appropriate, somewhat realiatic rationalization why I need to save my pennies for the Kindle...suggestions welcome:)

WAIT, hold the phone - I think the commenters have made some very valid points - I would miss the feeling of a book in my hand. I think the "multi-tasker" in me just wants one more thing to do when I am standing around somewhere. I also remember when the Palm Pilot came out - just had to have one of those - and it now languishes in a drawer...so glad I bounced this off of you guys first. Thanks for "talking" some sense into me!

The kindle sounds interesting...but how much yarn would that cost? lol Of course from the looks of your ravelry stash page... lol

For real; I like the idea of being thoughtful...or intentional with what we're doing.

I love gadgets. But, phew! That is a lot of yarn. My advice is always wait a little while until they work out all the bugs. Lesson learned the hard way.

Remember I was thinking about getting joe a kindle for Christmas...but we both figured he was too old-fashioned for it! They are pretty hard to come by aren't they? And what $500? Wouldn't you miss the feeling of a book in your hands?

I think you folks are right - I would miss the feel of that book in my hands! And waiting until the bugs are worked out? Amen to that.

I love it that knitters measure the price of things in how much yarn it will equal! I just love it! :) I find myself doing it too! I would miss the feel, the smell (well, only if it were new and not from the library), and the print of the actual book. Good decision. And look how much yarn you can buy now!

I am such a push over for new gadgets that I can see why a kindle may appear so sexy. But I am also patient or can be --unless we are talking yarn where I a have no spine:)

I would wait until the next generation too --as well as for the price to drop:)

I really want a Kindle too - it seems so nifty :) And I read a lot - my purse is always weighed down with at least 2 books just in case I am able to steal a moment here or there to catch up on some reading. A Kindle would help lighten my load :)

I have to agree with some of the other comments, I just love having a book in my hand or flipping through a magazine - there's something about the sound of turning pages ;)

I'm just the opposite of Knitting Kris, I love the smell of old books, especially those really old hardcovers from the library.

Coming way late to this discussion, I'm glad you rethought it, since you are not alone with the languishing palm pilots. My husband is a gadget hound so we have two floating around somewhere.

EZ's Opinionated Knitter is a fine book. It's a bio, as well as a compendium of her old pattern newsletters, published in their original format, to boot. I'm glad to have it and am fudging my way through a baby suprise now.
